3.1.0.0 (What’s this number?)
So again, I come across another video (thanks Sheila!) that explains clearly and interestingly, something not so easy for us Graphic Designers to put simply. And we all know the well dreaded questions:
“So you’re a Graphic Designer, so what is it exactly that you do?”
“Why do you need to read, write and analyse? Aren’t you just supposed to be making things look nice?”
“Why is it taking you so long to design this… (fill in the blank)?”
and so on and so forth… If you’re a Graphic Designer, share in the comments some of the strange questions you’ve been asked about what you do.
Happy watching!

Thanks for the link, it will give me many nightmares.
I don’t think graphic designers listen to their clients enough.
maybe because they think they are better in design.
what they don’t know is that the client knows his business way better.
if the client wants the logo bigger, there’s probably a valid reason, ask why.
listen to the client.
Very good point William! Watch this vid about collaborative design:

William!! Of course we should take into consideration what the client has to say, but that does not mean he *visually* knows his business better… We should guide the client and educate the client to turn his ideas into visuals…
I agree with Maya as well. The designer is the expert in terms of communication, but the client is the expert in terms of objectives. If they collaborate, the designer can find the right communication tools and messages to meet the client’s objectives, without any compromises. It just needs a lot of talking through, and talking is great!
From my experience if you don’t draw boundaries to your client you will end up hating what your work turned to be and regret doing what you did. as long as you keep things moderate from both sides yours and his every one will be happy.
both need an open mind and an optimistic attitude!
One of the things I hate most, is when friends tell you “You don’t work as hard as I do, after all, all you do is draw and color and make things look nice”
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
(Sorry if this comment is out of place)
yes, yes… the discrimination towards the visual people… true…
Great idea, but will this work over the long run?
